Talk About Tobacco PTA Program Toolkit

PTAs Can Help Prevent Youth Tobacco Use.

Kids are facing big decisions earlier than we realize. Even kids as young as 11 report vaping, and 60% of parents whose teens vape have no idea. As a parent, educator or community leader, you can help protect the kids in your life from the dangers of tobacco and vaping.

Below are resources to share with your school, other parents and guardians, or to facilitate a presentation at your next PTA meeting.

Parents,

Youth vaping has become a significant concern in schools nationwide. In Oklahoma, more than 1 in 5 (21.8%) high school students report vaping, and kids are starting as early as 11.

Vaping can have a negative impact on kids’ physical and mental health, including increased respiratory issues and anxiety and depression. It’s up to all of us to protect our kids from the dangers of vaping, tobacco and addiction. The decisions our kids make now can impact the rest of their lives.

Talking with your kids is a great place to start. If you haven’t talked with your kids about the dangers, now’s the time to start.

Talk About Tobacco has free resources for parents to start the conversation, including conversation guides, fact sheets and an interactive experience.

You can also help spread the word in your community, or expand your own knowledge, with their free PTA program. Scan the code below to access the program toolkit. Resources include:
